On Saturday, the folks at Reimagine Runnemede and their supporters gathered at their “Oasis of peace in an unpeaceful world,” the labyrinth the organization has constructed at Venella Memorial Park.
The event was held to participate in World Labyrinth Day, an international observance held annually in the spirit of seeking world peace and honoring the tradition of labyrinths.
Labyrinths are ancient archetypes, dating back thousands of years, with geographic shapes featuring meandering paths leading to a center point, constructured or carved into the ground. The purpose of the Labyrinth is to serve as place for meditations or ceremonies, which have been used by many different cultures throughout history.

In this event, participants around the world walk the paths of their local labyrinth while meditating on the topic of peace. The first World Labyrinth Day was held in 2009, and this year’s observance saw more than 400 individual events in 37 countries around the world, according to worldlabyrinthday.org.
Reimagine Runnemede has been hosting events at their labyrinth since 2023. At this most recent event, dozens of people from all over the region came to take part, according to organization Vice President David Steinberg.
