SOUTH JERSEY FARM SPOTLIGHT: Begin Again at Tyler Farm – A Family Affair

Right now we’re working on our next print issue, which will feature a heaping helping of content about the farms, farmers, farm markets and farm workers that help South Jersey put the garden in Garden State.

For that reason, we’ve decided to turn our Community Spotlight features completely over to that category for a while. So without further ado, let’s shine a light down on the farm!

Flowers and Produce in Cape May County

When we reached out to Begin Again at Tyler Farms to see if they’d like to have any of their employees featured i one of our Farm Spotlight features, we received a familiar response.

The farm doesn’t really have any employees, said farmer Catherine Myers. The farm is run completely by her and her husband Will Myers, with volunteer assistance from Will’s mom Mary Scrivani. So here’s to you Will and Mary!

“Mary was brought up on a large vegetable farm in Cumberland county,” Catherine Myers said. “She has been a huge help to us. It keeps her busy and we could not do it without her knowledge and support.

“Though she is not a paid employee, simply a loving volunteer. We are blessed to have her and we repay her generous time with meals and time with family – two of her favorite things.”

Begin Again at Tyler Farms is located on Tyler Road in Ocean View, where they are growing flowers and produce to sell at their farm stand.

They are just getting started, Myers said, with the operation now in it’s second year. To keep the farm running smoothly, she said she and her husband work hand-in-hand.

“Will not only does all the building of our structures, such as the green house, hoop houses and all of our raised beds, but he also is responsible for assembling all of our irrigation set up, and tending and establishing the layout of the flower field itself.

“He has worked tirelessly to get the farm up and running so that we have a successful and productive second season. He is making changes to our layout which will allow us to have a more organized farm in the years to come.”

Thank you to the Myer’s family for sharing their story and photos with us!
