Our new print issue features “Goodbye Summer, Hello School!” content about the end of the summer season and gearing up for back to school in our communities.
For that reason, we’ve decided to put a strong focus on our Community Spotlight category of “Education.” Schools are truly the backbone of so many communities. So without further ado, let’s shine a light on our teachers, administrators, support staff and parent volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to our kids!
Ms. Baldwin was nominated by Helen Fort Principal Mr. Aaron Eyler. Here is what he had to say about this outstanding teacher!
Ms. Susan Baldwin is a passionate and seasoned English Language Arts teacher at Helen Fort Middle School whose love for literature is both palpable and contagious. She is the co-coordinator of the school’s AVID program and has been instrumental in building a culture of high expectations, structure, and student celebration. Ms. Baldwin’s classroom is a vibrant space where students engage in rich discussions, tackle rigorous texts, and learn the value of voice and analysis. This past year, she implemented individualized IXL learning plans and introduced a grammar program that significantly improved students’ writing performance. She mentors student teachers, contributes to school-wide initiatives like “Say Yes to the Dress”, and maintains near-constant communication with families to ensure students are supported every step of the way. Her perfect attendance last year mirrors her unwavering dedication to the HFMS community.
Ms. Baldwin should be highlighted for her enduring impact as both a teacher and a role model. She doesn’t just teach literature—she lives it, and her students thrive because of the energy and sincerity she brings to the classroom each day. She’s a fierce advocate for her students, working behind the scenes to ensure they have access to opportunities, supplies, and experiences that enrich their academic journey. Whether she’s organizing field trips, planning AVID events, or cheering students on at concerts and games, Ms. Baldwin is a visible, caring presence in every corner of HFMS. Her belief in student potential is matched by her work ethic, which includes crafting thoughtful lesson plans, building student-teacher connections, and holding students to high standards with consistent support. HFMS is stronger—and more joyful—because of her.
“Ms. Baldwin brings heart, humor, and high standards to every student she teaches. Her love of learning—and her deep care for kids—is the soul of what makes HFMS special,” said Ms. Germano, Superviso of ELA and Social Studies
