Members of The Free Books Project in Camden held a celebration dinner last month to honor the volunteers and partners who help run the organization and carry out its mission of spreading literacy and a love of reading.

“We are here tonight to celebrate the people and the passion that started the Free Books Project,” said Tom Martin, founder and director of the nonprofit, during the event.

“Thanks to your support, we have grown from a small operation into something much bigger—a force for good, spreading joy and knowledge one book at a time.”

The organization, founded in Camden in 2018, works to bring books at no cost to anyone who needs them in the city and surrounding communities. They work to distribute donated books through the use of pop-up libraries and their Book Ark program (little libraries).

The event was held on Feb. 19 at the Cathedral Kitchen in Camden , a nonprofit devoted to the issue of food insecurity, providing job training and free meals and supportive services to those in need.
