When talking about iconic South Jersey food and beverages it doesn’t get much more locally celebrated than the syrupy sweet drink Boost!
Boost! Is not just a South Jersey specific product, it can be pegged to Burlington County in particular and even more specifically to the towns along the Delaware River there, where it was first made, and where it still finds its most fervent fans.
For more than 100 years, Boost!, formerly marketed as Tak-Aboost and Have-Atoast, has been produced in Riverside and distributed and served in area shops and restaurants.
Though you’re most likely to encounter Boost! In slushy form these days, you can still buy it as a concentrated syrup in glass bottles to mix as you like it at home.
Originally marketed as a health tonic, the drink’s formula is still highly-guarded. Its taste is most often described as a flat cola, but to us, it just tastes like South Jersey!
