Historic Smithville: Holiday Shopping While Taking a Step Back in Time

If you are looking for a fun way to spend a day strolling amongst quaint shops, eating and shopping for just the right gifts, you absolutely must experience the magic of Historic Smithville. Located minutes from Atlantic City, Smithville, in Galloway Township, is the ultimate South Jersey shopping village. History meets indulgence and luxury along the cobblestone paths and footbridge of this charming destination.

The unique experience blends classic small business shopping, with stores like The Candle Shoppe, Totally Tiki and Celebrity Collectibles with the old world charm of a village frozen in time, complete with a carousel overlooking a pond with paddleboats, and a train ride for a scenic ride around the village.

In all, the village has more than 50 shops and eateries including the historic Smithville Inn, which was owned by Fred and Ethel Noyes when they started the shopping village in the 1960s.

The village of shops also plays host to a number of events and festivals throughout the year, and the holiday season is no exception. Beginning on Thanksgiving, a lightshow illuminates the lake in the center of the village, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each night, through Jan. 6.

At the end of this month, Smithville will welcome its annual Dickens Fest, when South Jersey’s Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Company returns to bring a musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol” to the Village Green. The shows will take place on Sat., Nov. 29 at both 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., and on Sun., Nov. 30 at 1 p.m. It’ll be the perfect kickoff to get shoppers truly into the holiday spirit, because once December hits, everything at Smithville will be full-steam ahead into the Christmas season.
