The recent government shutdown and disruption of SNAP food stamp assistance benefits has brought into sharp relief just how dire the food insecurity problem in this country really is.
At the time of this writing, it had been reported that benefits were to be partially restored through emergency measures.
Hopefully by the time you’re reading this the situation has been completely resolved, and, we can only hope the panic and potential for starvation caused by this threat to the assistance program will spur some action to rectify the larger issues at play.
This time of year is especially tough on those experiencing financial hardships and food drives for Thanksgiving and Christmas have become a regular part of the holiday season.
Below is a list of some of the organizations in our region that work tirelessly to feed the hungry all year long.
