COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT-Local Theatre

In our spotlight are Mark Morgan and Carol Ann Murray, the founding directors of the Moorestown Theater Company.

The couple moved to Moorestown in 1997 and soon after founded the nonprofit theater company, along with Carol Ann’s mother Beverly Bennett, in 2003, and have been working with the group ever since.

In their first year in operation they put on one show, an all-ages production of “Annie,” and have since gone on to produce more than 250 shows.

Along with all the productions over the years, the company has New Jersey’s only chapter of the nationwide Penguin Project, which works to engage individuals with special needs through participation in community theater.

The program, which has more than 50 chapters in 25 states, features shows where all lead roles in a musical are played by neurodiverse students (the actors), while neurotypical students (the mentors) perform in the ensemble and are paired with a neurodiverse student throughout the rehearsal process.Visit the Moorestown Theater Company online at www.moorestowntheatercompany.org.
