Our spotlight this month is on Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food, and specifically Turkish cuisine.
Now you may be thinking that isn’t all that uncommon, but in our opinion, we won’t be happy until there are just as many options in South Jersey for falafel as there are for pizza or as many kebab houses as there are cheesesteak joints. In Gloucester County, in particular, this type of cuisine is exceedingly rare.
Luckily, the one example of Turkish food we do know of there is an excellent one.
We’re talking about Bosphorus Mediterranean Cuisine on Delsea Drive in Glassboro.
Bosphorus has been a favorite of ours here at South Jersey Local for quite a while now and we’ve enjoyed everything we’ve ever tried there. From soups and salads to desserts and drinks, every item has been fresh, authentic and delicious.

On our most recent visit, our experience was made all the more enjoyable by our wonderful server Hilal.
Originally from Turkey, Hilal said she’s working at Bosphorus while studying at nearby Rowan University.
She was an absolute delight, discussing her travels, telling us about her favorite menu items, and showing us pictures from her photography hobby.
As we do on most visits, we had to get the Mixed Cold Appetizer platter, and as on most visits, there was plenty left of everything to take home. It comes with generous servings of dips like hummus and babaganoush, and dishes like acili ezme and tabbouleh.

But the star of the show here is by far the Turkish bread that accompanies the dish – without a doubt one of the best crusty loaves around. If you’ve never had it, do yourself a favor and order a loaf or three.
We could honestly go on and on about everything we enjoy about Bosphorus, but don’t take our word for it, get there, try it for yourself, and say hello to Hilal!
