Today’s Volunteer Community Spotlight is on Coach Albert Palmieri from Sewell, Mantua Township.
Palmieri has in recent years devoted his time to coaching with the Sewell Raildogs baseball and softball organization. Now, he is currently volunteering with both his daughter Gabriella’s 10U tournament travel team and his son Jaxon’s Rookies team.
“We play roughly 30 to 45 games per season and I enjoy every second,” Palmieri said of just his daughter’s team schedule alone.
Palmieri grew up in nearby Washington Township, and works as an IT specialist for the Assistant Secretary of the Navy.
“Lucky for me, I am a remote worker which allows me to balance work and coaching,” he said
Palmieri said he’s been involved in coaching since about 2013. Back then, he started with his older son Johnny’s basketball and football teams in Clearview youth organizations.
And youth sports isn’t the only way Palmieri and his wife Samantha work to give back to their community. Their family puts out a massive Halloween display in their yard annually.
“We started our Halloween display in 2021,” Palmieri said. “It started as a few animatronics and now consumes most of our property through the month of October.”
This year the Palmieri’s used their decorating efforts as a way to raise money for charity through the Skeletons for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fundraiser.
When asked what he gets personally from volunteering, Palmieri said it’s all about “seeing smiling faces as we are winning games by doing the fundamentals.”
