ONE NIGHT ONLY! Theater Troupe is Looking to Rock AC with its Musical Revival

One local stage company is hoping the revival of a show of theirs from late last year can be the catalyst for growing the theater scene in Atlantic City.

The company is the Atlantic City Theatre Company and the show is “Forever in Plaid.”

“It’s a wonderful show,” said the company’s managing director, Thomas Smith. “It’s a 50s, 60s Doo-Wop  musical. It’s a whole lot of fun, it’s really funny, and we have some really talented artists involved.”

The original run for the show was back in September at the Celebrity Theatre inside the Claridge Hotel. Now the company is bringing it back for one more performance on Thursday, March 26 at the Anchor Rock Club.

“They’ve been very regularly committed to hosting local music artists and independent music performers and new upcoming bands,” Smith said of the Anchor. “They get a lot of turnout on that, and they’re trying to see if there is a theater market in Atlantic City.”

Smith said his company is In talks with the club about putting on future shows there, hopefully beginning this summer, and this one-night production of  “Forever in Plaid” is being used as a test run.

“A lot of what we’re looking forward to doing kind of hinges on engaging the local viewer base to  come out to Atlantic City and see a show,” he said.

Smith said the theater company was founded in 2019 by Jeremy Rotolo and a group of Stockton students. He joined the organization a few years later, and said the group is now working to grow their place in Atlantic City.

“We’ve been trying to build up and develop the organization and turn it into more of a local professional theater scene,” he said.

Smith said that along with possible future shows at the Anchor Rock and other venues inside Atlantic City, the company is hoping to take “Forever in Plaid” on the road as a touring production.

“Our goal for this show is to bring it out to other venues around the Jersey shore and Atlantic County,” Smith said. “I just really hope that the local community gets the chance to enjoy this show because we’re very proud of it.”

“Forever in Plaid” will be showing at the Anchor Rock Club on Thursday March 26.For tickets to the show, scan the QR code or visit the Anchor Rock Club online at www.anchorrockclub.com.
