Local Elected Official Pens Children’s Book

SOUTH JERSEY READS: Our monthly look at books and authors in our region.

For our look at South Jersey authors in this issue we chose Kyana Evans, a member of Paulsboro’s Borough Council, who has recently published a book teaching children about local government and civic engagement.

“As an elected official it’s important to me to support, encourage and empower young people in our communities,” Evans said in a release promoting her book. “I believe that the next generation of leaders are the young people who currently live in our neighborhoods and I am committed to educating them and preparing them to lead.” 

The book introduces to young audiences the way that local governments work and stresses the importance of community involvement.

“This book shows young people that asking questions, sharing ideas and caring about their neighborhood is important, even as children,” Evans said.
