Who Needs Philly? South Jersey is Where it’s at for Cheesesteaks!

At this point it’s probably been overstated that the late food writer and TV host Anthony Bourdain once suggested that the best Philly cheesesteaks weren’t in Philly at all. In his opinion the best example of the city-specific sandwich might come instead from over the bridge in South Jersey – Camden to be specific, and one place in particular – Donkey’s Place – to be even more exact.

Done a little differently at Donkey’s, on a round poppy seed studded kaiser roll, that different take on the classic may be starting to take hold.

Introducing the “Camden Style” cheesesteak at the Garnet Grill in Barrington, where chef and owner Patrick Duff is paying homage to and redefining the cheesesteak as a Jersey sandwich classic.

We recently stopped by the grill, which recently noted its first year in business, to try them for ourselves.

Along with the Camden sandwich, they do offer a Philly style as well. We tried both, along with some of their other items and everything was absolutely delicious.

Be sure to give them a try if you’re looking for a good steak – whichever style you prefer.
