The nonprofit organization behind the preservation of Old Pine Farm has organized a series of “Arts and Nature” workshops to be held this fall at their property in Deptford Township.
Sally Willowbee, the farm’s resident caretaker said the organization was interested in creating programming that would bring arts instruction to their members and visitors, so they applied to the Gloucester County Cultural and Heritage Commission at Rowan College for a grant to help bring the idea to life.
Since the primary goal of the organization is to preserve the natural habitat of the farm and its lands along the Big Timber Creek, Willowbee said the hope was to create an arts program that highlights the natural features of the property.
“Old Pine Farm is a Natural Lands Trust, a preserve, so combining it (the arts programming) with nature just seemed even better,” she said. “I think that it fits pretty good together.”
Subjects covered in the programs include making prints of indigenous plants, building terrariums and a workshop on making natural dyes from locally sourced materials.
The cost of each program is $10 for members and $15 for non members. Each class is limited to 15 attendees and pre-registration is required.
