Our new print issue features “Goodbye Summer, Hello School!” content about the end of the summer season and gearing up for back to school in our communities.
For that reason, we’ve decided to put a strong focus on our Community Spotlight category of “Education.” Schools are truly the backbone of so many communities. So without further ado, let’s shine a light on our teachers, administrators, support staff and parent volunteers who selflessly dedicate themselves to our kids!
Ms. Pressley was nominated by Helen Fort Principal Mr. Aaron Eyler. Here is what he had to say about this outstanding teacher!
Ms. Afton Pressley is the vibrant and visionary music teacher at Helen Fort Middle School, where she brings the power of the arts to life for students across the district. She coordinates choir performances for school-wide assemblies, military events, and even intergenerational outreach—like taking 6th grade choir students to perform at the local senior center. Last year, she secured a grant to enhance both the vocal and instrumental music programs, expanding resources and opportunities for student performers. Ms. Pressley also ensures her students are recognized through music awards and “Hornet Hollas” to celebrate effort, creativity, and growth. Her dedication extends beyond the stage; she attends early-morning meetings, volunteers for the Sunshine Club, and collaborates with colleagues to strengthen the district’s music programming. Through her energy and initiative, music education at HFMS has become a platform for confidence, community, and joy.
Ms. Pressley should be highlighted for her tireless work to elevate music education and her deep belief in the transformative power of performance. She doesn’t just teach music—she creates memorable experiences that allow students to shine both within and beyond the classroom. From organizing field trips and community performances to writing and winning grants, she continuously goes above and beyond to open doors for her students. Even as she works to strengthen communication with families, her drive to connect students to real-world applications of their learning is clear. Ms. Pressley is a dynamic presence in the school community whose efforts resonate far past a concert stage—she is shaping young voices, building student confidence, and enriching the culture of HFMS every single day.
“Ms. Pressley brings the joy, discipline, and creativity of music to every student she teaches. Her passion is contagious, and her impact is heard in every note sung and every student who finds their voice,” said Mr. Joseph Elinski, Assistant Principal.
