SOUTH JERSEY EDUCATION COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: Rowan University’s Carl Hausman

This Education Community Spotlight is a personal one for me. When we decided we’d be using our latest print issue to take a look at education in South Jersey, and specifically that I’d be writing about my alma mater, Rowan University, I knew we’d have to do a Spotlight on Professor Carl Hausman.

I had a lot of great teachers during my time at Rowan, some of whom have even reached out to offer words of support since I started this little paper. But Professor Hausman was without question the reason I stuck with the communications program at Rowan and got into journalism.

His impact on me at Rowan might just be because I had him for more classes than any other professor, but I think it was more than that. He always treated everyone like adults, and with respect, and he had a way of making journalism seem like an important field to get into, but also a fun one.

And the guy always looked the part. He looked as though he could fill in for Jim Gardner on the Action News desk with just seconds notice.

So thank you Professor Hausman. Rowan, and all of the students who have come through their journalism program have been lucky to have you as a resource. Oh and if you haven’t seen it already, check out Page 2 of our print edition for a little anecdote about an experience in one of your classes!
