Right now we’re working on our next print issue, which will feature our summer “Down the Shore” content about the beach towns, communities, businesses and people that help South Jersey put the state on the map for the best beaches, resorts, events and attractions in the country.
For that reason, we’ve decided to turn our Community Spotlight feature over to the special category of “Beach Patrol” for a while. So without further ado, let’s shine a light on our beaches and those who keep them safe!
Lifeguard Evan Rundgren
Evan was nominated for a spotlight by Chief Renny Steele.
Evan is currently in his 13th year as a lifeguard with the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol. He grew up locally in Ocean City and his family has Delco roots.
Evan went to Temple University in Philadelphia and then graduated from Stockton University in Galloway, NJ, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Physics. He then obtained his Master’s Degree in Stem Education from the American College of Education.
Evan has been a teacher for 11 years now, 10 of which he has spent teaching Physics at Lower Cape May Regional High School in Lower Township, NJ.
In his time away from the beach, Evan and a friend own a portable mini-golf course that they take to events. He has also been playing in a mini-golf league on the Ocean City Boardwalk for the past 12 years.
“I love being a lifeguard because it has a great sense of community and it serves the community in a positive way,” Evan said.
Thanks for keeping the Sea Isle Beaches safe Evan!
