SOUTH JERSEY FARM SPOTLIGHT: Marie and Ryan Harp of Working Dog Farms

We’ve decided to turn our Community Spotlight features completely over to the Farm Spotlight category for a while. So without further ado, let’s shine a light down on the farm!

Article Submitted by Marie Harp

First generation, husband and wife farmers, Ryan and Marie have always had a
love for growing their own produce and visiting local farms with a dream of
expanding their backyard vegetable growing and chicken tending hobby into a full
production farm offering family fun events for all. When they purchased old,
vacant farmland in 2021, they began turning the dream into reality and started
Working Dog Farms in 2022.

Working Dog Farms is home to over 150 pastured laying hens and continues to
expand their flock each year. Currently in their third growing season, Working Dog
Farms offers a variety of mixed vegetables along with pastured rainbow eggs for
sale to the community via a roadside farm stand or pickup order. These same
vegetables and eggs can also be found in local eateries such as the Queen Bean
Bistro & Coffee Bar in Ventnor and Jessie’s of Linwood.

In addition to seasonal offerings, Working Dog Farms hosts seasonal family fun
events. In 2024, they hosted 3 weekends of pumpkin picking and “U-dig” sweet
potato festivities. In Spring of 2025, they added Easter Egg Hunts (including a K9
friendly egg hunt). Farmer Marie is excited to continue to create and add additional
family fun events for all seasons. Working Dog Farms also hopes to open for Upick
Christmas Trees in 2030!

In 3 short years, Farmers Marie and Ryan have found farming to be deeply
rewarding – not just in working the land, but in connecting with new people and
sharing their farm with the community. They hope to continue to strengthen their
community by providing locally grown, clean food throughout and access to
outdoor family farm experiences for all ages all year.

seasonal offerings and schedule of events.
